Avant Browser

Avant Web Browser

| Avant Browser | Netscape | Opera | Firefox |

This is really what's known as a 'bolt-on'. The Avant web browser uses the Internet Explorer chassis but with a different user interface.

This one I liked! It has a nice feel to it and is generally smooth to use and operate; familiar enough to Internet Explorer to be able to get to grips with quickly but with some additional features which can help speed up your surfing if you use a dial-up to access the internet.

The extra features, such as blocking pop-ups (of course), image-blocking (may interfere with functionality of a website), and perhaps what I like best apart from the smooth feel; a flash blocker, useful for all those ghastly flash ad-movies.

Additional features enable you to turn off sound, video, java-script and active-x with ease.

One thing I don't like about the Avant browser are the updates. There seem to be too many, which at times can prove a little irksome.

I have heard this browser described as "Internet Explorer as it should be ..." and it is a fair description. It is free and the relatively small download size of around 2.75Mb is a bonus.
