| In an unprecedented move, Scotland's 44 neurologists have written
to a newspaper stating they are "embarrassed" by the quality of treatment
given to multiple sclerosis patients. According to the
article in the Sunday Herald,
Professor Charles Warlow, consultant neurologist at the Western General
Hospital in Edinburgh, who wrote on behalf of every neurologist in Scotland,
said, "We are embarrassed by how long it can take for a ‘non-urgent’
new patient to see a neurologist".
Also pointed out was that Scotland has fewer neurologists than most
other European countries with one neurologist for every 116,000 people.
Compared to Norway's one neurologist for 20,000, which also has a
high incidence of multiple sclerosis, Scotland is woefully inadequate
at providing care for multiple sclerosis patients.
