Glossary - E

  • edema - abnormal and excessive accumulation of serous fluid in tissue spaces, the lungs or a body cavity
  • encephalopathy - any disease of the brain, especially those relating to a change in structure
  • endocarditis - inflammation of the lining of the heart and its valves
  • enteritis - inflammation of the intestine, especially the small intestine
  • epididymitis - painful inflammation of the epididymis, the structure which sits on top of, and connects the testicle, to the vas deferens, the tube which carries sperm from the testicles
  • erythema nodosum - an inflammatory disorder that is characterized by tender, red nodules under the skin often appearing on the shins and accompanied by pain
  • esophagitis - inflammation of the esophagus
  • euphoria - feeling of great elation, typically exaggerated in relation to circumstance
  • exfoliative dermatitis - condition of multiple skin disorders. The condition is characterized by widespread scaling, often with itching and skin redness
