Glossary - K

  • keratoconjunctivitis - dryness of the conjunctiva and cornea which may cause the cornea to become thickened and a loss of visual acuity
  • ketosis - an abnormal increase of ketone bodies in the body in conditions of reduced or disturbed carbohydrate metabolism such as is found in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
  • kidney calculus - kidney stone; presence of the a stone (calculus) formed within the kidney
  • kidney failure - inability of the kidneys to excrete waste products, concentrate urine, and conserve electrolytes
  • kidney tubular disorder - renal tubular acidosis - the inability of the kidneys to properly or adequately remove acids from the blood
